it was a mandatory vacation, a quick visa run for the weekend. but it's amazing what two days away can do for you. i didn't realize until i was on the ferry, being whisked across the river, that for the past 3 months i had been going full-speed from day one. i think i arrived in buenos aires on a sunday and by monday i had a regular 9-6 schedule that lasted until friday. throw in some reading, writing, occasional running, guitar lessons, and occasional breakdowns for feeling like i would never be able to speak spanish and voila! --my life in a nutshell for the past three months.
i went with a friend and while we had a blast touring, wining and dining through colonia, montevideo and ta-daaaa punta del este, there was one morning, i woke up early and went for a walk by myself to the beach. on one side of the beach it was calm and peaceful. walking to the other side though, the waves were thrashing every which way along the rocks. the wind was blowing me away and it almost felt like there was a coming storm. but in some ways, that was the most peaceful part of the whole trip. just this sense of feeling completely overwhelmed by something else. knowing that i'm just like one of the rocks getting thrashed with every crashing wave, but somehow, over time, also slowly burnished and with time becoming shiny and smooth.
anyway, before i end with some kind of "footprints in the sand" cheese (queso!), my favorite part of the whole trip was when in montevideo, also at the beach, i went to take a dip in the water and it was freezing cold. i was trying to be cool walking slowly in with my sunglasses and bikini, but i had accidentally stepped in too far and being as tall as i am, the next wave that came basically went over my head, but it was so much fun. i felt like a kid again, just splashing around. anyway, the next thing i know, these kids came up next to me and start splashing me and so i started splashing them. i had a great time haha. it's great to be a kid again. i managed to take a picture of them after i was soaked.
anyway, i never would've thought i would have the opportunity to go to uruguay. it was great though, as if the place had my name written on it.
oh wait, it did.
hee hee. :]

i have fond memories of uruguay. kind of the same [as AR] but kind of different. i love how they drink their mate - all the time and everywhere :)
